How does MarRest flag rest hour risk?
MarRest checks 24-hour rest at hourly checkpoints and 168-hour rest at daily and report checkpoints. It also provides a split-rest review that bridges short gaps under its configured analysis. The dashboard green, amber, or red signal is the 24-hour indicator only: red below 10 hours, amber from 10 to under 11 hours, and green from 11 hours. These are warnings for review; shifts are not blocked automatically.
How does the system handle crew working across multiple vessels?
Within the active organization, MarRest follows the crew member, not just one vessel. Recent work and rest hours move with the person when they change vessel or swap a shift.
Can crew clock in from a phone?
Yes. Clock-in is the daily screen: start or stop a watch, see rest in the last 24 hours, and get a non-blocking warning if the planned end—or an assumed 12-hour duration when no end exists—could create a rest deficit. Published Vaktos or Deputy shifts can also be started there. The app can be installed as a PWA with optional web push after install. The app is Icelandic, Norwegian, and English — each user chooses in their profile.
What languages does MarRest support?
The app is Icelandic, Norwegian, and English. Each crew member picks a language in their profile. Menus, rest warnings, marketplace, reports, and PDFs follow that choice. If you need an English PDF, switch the profile to English and export again.
What is the marketplace?
On Vaktos-linked organisations, a crew member who cannot make a future published watch can call out. Eligible colleagues see that open watch and claim it. It is not a group chat and not a broadcast to everyone.
What is Approval of Closed Days?
An optional vessel-only review step: a captain or administrator reviews a completed workday and confirms that recorded working hours are correct before the data is used further, for example for payroll. It is separate from monthly account sign-off. Approval of Closed Days →
Do we need Vaktos or Deputy?
No. MarRest works on its own as the rest log and punch clock. Vaktos can extend it with roster planning: published watches appear in MarRest, and punches made in Vaktos can sync into the same log. Deputy iCal remains when Vaktos is off. Many operators enter watches as they happen without a separate roster product.
Does MarRest support fishing vessels?
Yes. MarRest also supports recorded work/rest data for fishing operations. STCW-F governs training, certification, and watchkeeping, while numeric fishing rest requirements come from applicable national rules and instruments such as ILO C188. MarRest does not certify compliance. Fishing is a secondary vertical; passenger-vessel rest-hour logging is the primary market. See the STCW-F guide.
