Approval of Closed Days

A completed workday for a vessel can be reviewed by a captain or administrator. The review confirms that the recorded working hours are correct before the data is used further, for example for payroll.

In short

Approval of Closed Days is an optional vessel-only review step for captain and administrator roles.

The approver reviews the completed workday and confirms that the recorded working hours are correct. MarRest also highlights items that may need attention, such as possible rest-hour deficits or deviations from planned shifts.

The purpose is to let an authorized vessel reviewer check the time records before the data is used further.

A warning is not an automatic lock. The approver makes the review decision.

Approval of Closed Days in MarRest: This week with Approve all; two days where one person clocked out later than the others
Closed days for the week. A later clock-out is highlighted so it can be reviewed before the day is approved.

What happens?

MarRest continues to record working hours and rest in the same way as before.

  • The day's clock-in and clock-out records remain unchanged.
  • Rest-hour monitoring continues to identify items that may need review.
  • Deviations in recorded working hours may be flagged for review.
  • Completed workdays are reviewed for the relevant vessel.
  • Once the day has been reviewed, a captain or administrator can approve the record.
  • Monthly account sign-off remains part of the rest report.

Approval of Closed Days is therefore a quality-control step for working-hour records, not a new way of recording work or rest.

Who should approve the day?

A user with a captain or administrator role can approve a completed workday for the relevant vessel.

The review is tied to a vessel and a completed workday; it is not a generic worksite approval.

What does the responsible person review?

During the review, MarRest may highlight items that need attention, such as:

  • recorded working hours that differ from the planned shift
  • a later clock-out than expected
  • possible rest-hour deficits that have not yet been reviewed
  • other information that may affect whether the time record is correct

Warning, not a lock. The captain or administrator decides whether the day can be approved.

Accurate working-hour records for payroll

When working hours are recorded through clock-in and clock-out, the actual working time may differ from the planned shift.

Approval of Closed Days gives a captain or administrator a way to review the vessel's completed workday and confirm that it is correct.

This creates a clear separation between:

  • Shift planning — determines who is scheduled to work
  • Clock-in and clock-out — records when the person actually worked
  • Approval of the closed day — confirms that the recorded working hours are correct
  • Payroll — can use the approved working-hour records

MarRest does not replace the shift plan. It helps reviewers keep actual working hours separate from planned hours.

Optional for companies

Companies can enable Approval of Closed Days if they want this additional review step for working-hour records.

If the feature is not enabled, MarRest continues to record working hours and rest, warn about possible rest-hour deficits and generate rest reports as before.

What this is not

Not a shift planning tool

Shift planning and changes to shifts are still handled in Vaktos when it is used together with MarRest.

Not an automatic lock

Shifts are not automatically locked because of a rest-hour warning. A warning identifies an item for review; it is not a legal determination.

Not the monthly sign-off

Approval of Closed Days is a review of individual days. Monthly sign-off is a separate step in the rest report.
